As many of you know we have been working on adding some new features to our site. Things have been slow going with certain parts of the upgrade due to some technical difficulties in making some of the new code work with the existing framework of BELLPORT-NY.COM. In order to make your experience here worth while, it is necessary that everything run smooth and seamlessly. In order to make this happen for you we have made the executive decision to change our format here.

From now on we are going to focus only on bringing you local Bellport news, and area information. We have decided it is best to move our forums and future photo sharing sections to a new site, which will be set up exclusively for community participation and sharing. The new site will be a sister site to BELLPORT-NY.COM, meaning if you are a member of this site, your membership will transfer over to the new one seamlessly, without any further action on your part. We will handle all of that stuff.

Along with the current features that will be moving to the new site, I want to tell you what additional things we will be offering there. Our sister site will be a full fledged community site, giving users the ability to create your own profile page and we will even host your very own blog, of course all free of charge, so that everyone can have a platform to voice their opinions, ideas, and share any information about whats going on in town. And yes of course their will also be the Bellport forum, which will be moved over to the new site, allowing for open discussion with our neighbors. There will also be a system in place for the sharing of pictures and images as well.

It just makes more sense for us to do all of this with 2 sites as opposed to 1. Obviously the two sites will be linked together for easy navigation between the two. The main reason behind all of this, is that we have found that in order to incorporate all of these great features into one website, we need a much more advanced framework than the one we are currently using here.

As previosly mentioned, we will continue to keep BELLPORT-NY.COM up and running with a renewed focus on local Bellport News and Events. It will take us about another month to launch our sister site, at which time we will announce the name of the new site here, and a link to it. So make sure you keep coming back for all the latest information, and dont forget to let us know how we are doing here. Well everyone was up in arms over the boat parade in Patchogue this weekend, because they decided to exclude “Christmas” from the name this year, calling it the Holiday boat parade instead. Many were offended and the Grucci’s pulled out of the fireworks show they were supposed to put on. Lots of silly, small minded things ensued.

Looking around at other reports on the web I see the stories peppered with comments of bigotry and just plain stupidity. It seems to me in a time when the world is looking at Patchogue NY as a center for racial tension and hatred, people should be a bit more conscious of themselves and how they represent the place they call home. The Patchogue Holiday Boat Parade still had a good turnout after it was all said and done. It would have been allot nicer without all the muck. What are we teaching our kids by this nonsense? How do you explain to them that the reason there are no fireworks this year at the parade is because the grown ups can be a bunch of ignorant and intolerant jerks.

That’s right I said it. Think I’m being too harsh? Check out whats being said on some of the other local news sites. I am actually being pretty nice, in comparison. Its time for us all to grow up here in America. Like it or not we don’t all share the same beliefs, we do not all have the same color skin or place of origin. So what? This country was built on diversity. Forget about tolerating it, we should be embracing it, as our fathers and grandfathers did who came to this country for a better life than the oppression some were facing at home. They came here like everyone else, to live their dream. Lets try to keep that dream alive.

On a lighter note, we have had to push back publishing our Pictures page until next week. Lots of kinks to work out still. Don’t be discouraged though, we will have it worked out before you know it. We have however added a few more pages of content to the site, have a look around and see for yourself. I hope I didn’t scare you off with my rant about the parade, I just felt it had to be said. Things have been quiet around here for the last couple days. I guess that may be a good thing. On Monday we will have a weekend update to cover any stories that come up. Right now we are focusing on working the bugs out of our Bellport Pictures submission area. Fun stuff. We plan on publishing our photos on Monday and hopefully have a live test of the submission service going. Make sure you check and see if its up so you can help us in the testing process. There are always little snags when incorporating these types of things into an existing websites structure, so bear with us if its not perfect out of the box. We expect to have things operating smoothly by the middle of next week so you can begin sharing your pictures here too.

We are celebrating our second week online here at BELLPORT-NY.com. That’s right, we are only 2 weeks old, still a baby. The response has been amazing, outdoing our biggest expectations early on. We have had hundreds of visitors already and we see more and more every day. It just goes to show how much interest everyone has in their own community. That’s what makes Bellport NY stand out from the crowd. Participation and involvement are the things that make a community work. We have no shortage of that here.

We know that many of you are return visitors or new members here. We hope that we can continue to serve you with relevant information in a timely manner. Well we have come a long way since day two, even though we have only been online for a little under three weeks now. We are constantly updating and refining the navigation and other features here in an effort to make your visit more productive and enjoyable.
