I Love Bellport NY

Over the years, one of the things that I have enjoyed the most about Bellport NY is the quiet anonymity of the area in general. Not that Bellport is unheard of either. To the contrary, our community has been a haven for many historical figures throughout the years. A quiet retreat, if you will. We have all the amenities we could ask for, great food, a multitude of retail shops and businesses, from the shops in the village, on over to the Tanger Outlets. And then there is The Great South Bay, and The Bellport Bay Yacht Club with members sailing at national competition levels. Fire Island is just a hop skip and a jump across the bay in any size boat, on a nice day.

There’s one thing we do not have allot of. Traffic and noise. Aside from a bit of tourist traffic at certain events during the year, it’s generally just a local crowd. That’s what separates Bellport from say Patchogue NY. Now Patchogue is a nice place, a great place in its own day. They were at one point a major player in the retail market, with people coming from surrounding cities and towns for Sweezie’s and all the other local shops on Main St. I should also note that Patchogue has been making strides in that area again. There are many new businesses moving in to the village, including big names like J&R Steak House. But along with all their success they have had traffic and at times noise. All in all, it is still a nice place to visit.

But I call Bellport New York my home. Now I am always looking for things to do around the house. I’m a “get in there and get your hands dirty” kind of guy. My area of expertise happens to be in the field of web design and other internet and computer related studies. My goal is to provide a valuable service to the community of Bellport, North and The Village. That is what I am trying to accomplish here.

The thing is, I can’t do that without your help. Your input is invaluable to me and to your neighbors. If you don’t share it, your voice will not be heard. We are out there for the world to see, you should have a say in how they see it. It couldn’t be simpler to do. Sign up as a member at BELLPORT-NY.COM. It’s free and anonomouse. Check out our Privacy Policy and then click on The Member link on the right side of the page. Then you can begin to leave your opinion and or feedback for all to see. It does matter to us what you think.

About North Bellport

This site was launched to fill a gap. The information gap on the Internet that you trip over while trying to get the facts about Bellport NY. No one has been comprehensibly covering the entirety of the community.  We want to bridge that information gap, and create a space for the people that actually live in the community, to have a say in how the world views our community.

We see allot of focus on the village, but its not so easy to find information on North Bellport and what it has to offer. We love the village and all, but there are some other great attractions in the area as well. We all know about Home Depot and the Tanger Outlets for starters, but what else is out there? Did you know there are some 1500 restaurants within a 15 mile radius of Bellport? I bet there are a few spots you’re missing out out on that have been around for years. You just haven’t heard of them. Yet. That’s the type of stuff that we want to share. There’s a gold mine of things to do and see, right under our noses. Thats what the internet is for, to provide information and allow for communication. Lets take advantage of that.

I will start by highlighting some of those places here regularly. The first place I want to mention is the Zagat rated Spicy’s Barbecue Restaurant, famous for their chicken wings and signature sauce. They open up just in time for lunch and are located on the North East corner of Montauk Highway and Station RD. The wings are great, but they also have some other classics like Fish and Chips as well as a fried Scallop Dinner worth trying. I usually just get the wings, but whatever you decide to try, make sure and take home a jar of their signature sauce. You will be glad you did. Next time I stop by to get some eats, I will ask the good folks there if I can add their menu to our website.

I will be doing a weekly article spotlighting some of the other great places to see in the area, along with the usual local reports and ocasional world news. Come see us again, or subscribe to our RSS feed in a reader. We would love to hear what you think of our site or any portion of it. Leave us a comment.

The Dark Side Of Technolgy

In one of my earlier articles I vented some of my frustration stemming from the fact that it’s getting so hard to find information on the internet these days without having to sort through a million search page results. Especially things like local news or events in Bellport. Most of what you find is garbage. I find old outdated websites, with outdated information. I find pages upon pages containing nothing but advertisements. Then there are the ones that I personally love the most. You know the ones, filled with nothing but random gibberish that obviously wasn’t written by a human being.

You can tell the difference between one of those type of websites, and a site containing real value. To be fair there are an abundant amount quality websites out there with valuable content. I could name a dozen off the top of my head that I visit every day and couldn’t do without. I will save that for a future article. For now I want to focus on what separates the value from the junk. Its pretty simple. Its you and its me. Take a look at some of the big sites everyone has heard of. You know, sites like FaceBook, WikiPedia, Ebay, to name a few. Those websites have one important factor in common. They all provide value to their members, and they all do so by allowing their members to directly participate in the process. The real service they provide is just a place to get together for a common purpose, be it auctioning off those old golf clubs, or catching up with that old high school sweetheart. Those sites are great for that and they provide value.

But what about when the information that your looking for is much more specific, maybe closer to home. That’s when it gets hard to find value on the internet these days. That’s why I started BELLPORT-NY.com. Every time I wanted to find out about something specific that was going on in town I came away disappointed. There was no one central website that I could just log onto and ask someone a simple question. That’s what I want to change. I want our community site to be packed full of geographic and historical type details, and it will be. We are updating here several times a day. But more importantly If there’s something you don’t find here, you can ask. If another community member can’t give you your answer, maybe the staff here can.

We are also open to suggestions about exactly what other types of information you would like to see about Bellport NY, available here in the future. If we dont know what your looking for it makes it difficult to provide it, and we are always happy to be of better service to our loyal readers. We want to provide you with value. In order to do that we need your input. So if you plan on continuing to visit us here at BELLPORT-NY.com, you might as well join our community now. Its easy and its free like most everything else here. Hope you enjoy.
